PROS AND CONS OF WORKING FROM HOME

Are you tired of commuting to the office and seeing the same building every day, doing the same things over and over again? If so, you may want to consider working from home. By working from home, you can adjust your hours to whatever is most convenient for you.

Nowadays, as more and more professionals seek balance on their work and life, working from home is becoming increasingly viable. There are many reasons for setting up an office at home. Some people might need to have more time with the children or want to be the boss of their own.

However, working from home doesn’t come easily for some people. It has its own potential pitfalls despite the rewards. Here is a list of the pros and cons of working from home:

Pros

1) Time efficiency by avoiding wasted hours in traffic.

2) No more stress from traffic during rush hours. Stress that can lead to exhaustion before you even begin the day.

3) You can save your costs associated with going to work. These include costs of taking buses or fuel and parking (if you drive), lunch, laundry, etc.

4) Freedom to determine your own work hours. You can set your own deadlines and complete work depending on what is convenient for you.

5) You can also set your own ideal environment, basically work in the framework that suits you best to make you more productive.

6) Less distractions from coworkers, uncalled meetings, etc. They can all be avoided if you’re sealed off in your own space at home.

7) For parents, it can be comforting to know that you can monitor your children and have the time for them.

On the flip side of the coin, the cons of working from home are quite plenty too..

Cons

1) Isolation. Lack of human interaction can be depressing, since workplace provides a location to meet people and make friends.

2) Since there are no pressure to start working from the supervisor, productivity can seriously decrease if you don’t maintain your self-discipline and motivation.

3) Although office distractions can be avoided by working from home, distractions from household matters could arise and can be very disruptive.

4) Health care must be paid on your own and could be expensive.

5) Though more people than ever have worked from home, many people don’t take it seriously. Sometimes, they were treated as though they didn’t work.

Having a home-based job has advantages and disadvantages, however it will depend on the person’s mindset and what is more convenient. Following a few simple steps and maintaining a high self-discipline and motivation can overshadow the disadvantages and let you reap the fruits of its advantages.
